- Does your sister live in London? (Kız kardeşin Londra'da mı yaşıyor?) → does: yardımcı fiil, live: asıl fiil
- We have completed the project just on time. (Projeyi tam zamanında bitirdik.) → have: yardımcı fiil, completed: asıl fiil
- Jack is cleaning the house himself. (Jack evi kendisi temizliyor.) → is: yardımcı fiil, cleaning: asıl fiil
► 1. "BE" Fiili (Olmak)
"Be" hem yardımcı fiil hem de asıl fiil (tam fiil) olarak kullanılabilir.
| Zaman / Çekim | Formlar (Özneye Göre) | Örnek Cümle |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Present | I am, he/she/it is, we/you/they are | He is a doctor. / They are waiting. |
| Simple Past | I/he/she/it was, we/you/they were | She was tired. / We were studying. |
| Past Participle (V3) | been | I have been to New York three times. |
A) "Be" Fiilinin Yardımcı Fiil Olarak Kullanımı
Yardımcı fiil olarak kullanıldığında kendisinden sonra başka bir asıl fiil gelir:
• Present Progressive: He is playing tennis. (Tenis oynuyor.)
• Past Progressive: He was playing tennis. (Tenis oynuyordu.)
• Present Perfect Progressive: He has been playing tennis. (Tenis oynamaktadır / oynuyor.)
• Past Perfect Progressive: He had been playing tennis. (Tenis oynamaktaydı.)
• Simple Present / Past Passive: The window is / was broken. (Pencere kırılır / kırıldı.)
• Present / Past Perfect Passive: The window has / had been broken. (Pencere kırılmış / kırılmıştı.)
• Future Simple Passive: The window will be broken. (Pencere kırılacak.)
B) "Be" Fiilinin Asıl (Tam) Fiil Olarak Kullanımı
"Be" cümlede asıl fiil olduğunda arkasından başka bir eylem fiili gelmez (genellikle sıfat, isim veya yer bildirir). Bu cümlelerde soru veya olumsuz yapmak için başka bir yardımcı fiile (do/does gibi) ihtiyaç duyulmaz; "be" bizzat cümlenin yüklemidir:
• Olumlu: They are very happy. (Onlar çok mutlular.)
• Olumsuz: They are not (aren't) very happy. (Onlar çok mutlu değiller.)
• Soru: Are they very happy? (Onlar çok mutlular mı?)
► 2. "HAVE" Fiili
"Have" fiili de hem yardımcı fiil hem de asıl fiil olarak kullanılabilen çok yönlü bir fiildir.
| Zaman | Formlar |
|---|---|
| Simple Present | I / we / you / they have, he / she / it has |
| Simple Past | I / he / she / it / we / you / they had |
| Past Participle (V3) | had |

• Past Perfect Progressive: He had been playing tennis.

B) Sahip Olma Anlamında ve Soru / Olumsuz Yapısı
Sahip olmak anlamında "have" hem tek başına (asıl fiil) hem de "have got" kalıbıyla (yardımcı fiil olarak) kullanılır. Bu iki yapı arasındaki soru ve olumsuz farkına dikkat ediniz:
| Kullanım Şekli | Olumlu Cümle | Olumsuz Cümle | Soru Cümlesi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Asıl Fiil Olarak (do/does gerekir) |
I have a car. | I do not have a car. | Do I have a car? |
| "Have got" ile (have yardımcı fiildir) |
I have got a car. | I have not got a car. | Have I got a car? |
► 3. "WILL" Yardımcı Fiili
"Will" yalnızca yardımcı fiil (modal auxiliary) olarak gelecek zaman bildiren yapılarda kullanılır; tek başına asıl eylem fiili olarak yer almaz.
• Future Tense: He will play tennis. / He will not (won't) play tennis.
• Future Perfect Tense: He will have played tennis.
• Kısaltma: will not = won't | I will = I'll
► 4. "DO" Fiili (Yapmak)
"Do" fiili hem asıl fiil (yapmak anlamında) hem de Simple Present ve Simple Past zamanlarda soru ve olumsuz yapmaya yarayan yardımcı fiil olarak kullanılır.
A) Yardımcı Fiil Olarak "Do"
• Simple Present: He does not (doesn't) play football. (Futbol oynamaz.)
• Simple Past: He did not (didn't) play football. (Futbol oynamadı.)
• Simple Present: Does he play tennis? (O tenis oynar mı?)
• Simple Past: Did he play tennis? (O tenis oynadı mı?)
B) Asıl (Ana) Fiil Olarak "Do"
"Do" asıl fiil olarak kullanıldığında bir eylemi gerçekleştirmek, yapmak anlamına gelir. Olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde hem yardımcı fiil "do/does/did" hem de asıl fiil "do" aynı cümlede birlikte yer alır:
• Olumlu: She does her homework every day. (Her gün ödevini yapar. → does: asıl fiil)
• Olumsuz: She doesn't do her homework every day. (Her gün ödevini yapmaz. → doesn't: yardımcı fiil, do: asıl fiil)
• Soru: Does she do her homework every day? (Her gün ödevini yapar mı? → does: yardımcı fiil, do: asıl fiil)
Auxiliary Verbs (Helping Verbs)
In English, auxiliary verbs (also known as helping verbs) are used together with a main verb to express the tense, aspect, mood, or voice of a sentence, as well as to form questions and negative sentences.
The three most common primary auxiliary verbs are be, have, and do. In addition, will serves as an essential auxiliary verb for expressing future time.
- Does your sister live in London? → does: auxiliary verb, live: main verb
- We have completed the project just on time. → have: auxiliary verb, completed: main verb
- Jack is cleaning the house himself. → is: auxiliary verb, cleaning: main verb
► 1. The Verb "BE"
"Be" can function as both an auxiliary verb and a main (full) verb.
| Tense / Form | Conjugation | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Present | I am, he/she/it is, we/you/they are | He is a doctor. / They are waiting. |
| Simple Past | I/he/she/it was, we/you/they were | She was tired. / We were studying. |
| Past Participle (V3) | been | I have been to New York three times. |
A) "Be" as an Auxiliary Verb
When used as an auxiliary verb, "be" is always followed by another verb (participle):
• Present Progressive: He is playing tennis.
• Past Progressive: He was playing tennis.
• Present Perfect Progressive: He has been playing tennis.
• Past Perfect Progressive: He had been playing tennis.
• Simple Present / Past: The window is / was broken.
• Present / Past Perfect: The window has / had been broken.
• Future Simple: The window will be broken.
B) "Be" as a Main (Full) Verb
When "be" is the main verb, it is not followed by another verb. No additional auxiliary verb (like do/does) is required to form negatives or questions:
• Positive: They are very happy.
• Negative: They are not very happy.
• Question: Are they very happy?
► 2. The Verb "HAVE"
"Have" is also a dual-purpose verb that operates as both an auxiliary and a main verb.
| Tense | Conjugation |
|---|---|
| Simple Present | I / we / you / they have, he / she / it has |
| Simple Past | I / he / she / it / we / you / they had |
| Past Participle (V3) | had |
A) Auxiliary Usage in Perfect Tenses & Passive
• Present Perfect Simple: He has played tennis.
• Past Perfect Simple: He had played tennis.
• Present Perfect Progressive: He has been playing tennis.
• Past Perfect Progressive: He had been playing tennis.
• The window has / had been broken.
B) Expressing Possession: "Have" vs "Have Got"
When expressing possession, "have" can be used as a main verb (requiring auxiliary *do/does* for negatives and questions) or as an auxiliary verb with "have got":
| Form | Affirmative | Negative | Question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Verb (needs do/does) |
I have a car. | I do not have a car. | Do I have a car? |
| With "got" (have is auxiliary) |
I have got a car. | I have not got a car. | Have I got a car? |
► 3. The Auxiliary Verb "WILL"
"Will" is used exclusively as an auxiliary verb (modal auxiliary) to construct future tenses:
• Future Simple: He will play tennis. / He will not (won't) play tennis.
• Future Perfect: He will have played tennis.
• Contractions: will not = won't | I will = I'll
► 4. The Verb "DO"
"Do" operates as both a main verb (meaning to perform an action) and an essential auxiliary verb for forming questions and negatives in Simple Present and Simple Past tenses.
A) "Do" as an Auxiliary Verb
• Simple Present: He does not (doesn't) play football.
• Simple Past: He did not (didn't) play football.
• Simple Present: Does he play tennis?
• Simple Past: Did he play tennis?
B) "Do" as a Main Verb vs Auxiliary
When "do" is the main verb, it takes auxiliary "do/does/did" alongside itself in questions and negative statements:
• Positive: She does her homework every day. (does = main verb)
• Negative: She doesn't do her homework every day. (doesn't = auxiliary, do = main verb)
• Question: Does she do her homework every day? (does = auxiliary, do = main verb)
